Jordon keys late Flagler rally

GREENWOOD, S.C. – Jaylen Jordon scored the last four points of the game and that was what Flagler College needed to rally past Lander University 83-80 in a Peach Belt Conference men's basketball game Wednesday night at Finis Horne Arena.

Flagler has won three of its last four games to improve to 15-11 overall and 9-8 in the Peach Belt. Lander has lost its last three of four games and fell to 15-12 overall and 9-8 in conference play. The Saints close out the regular season on Saturday at Georgia Southwestern State University at 7:30 p.m.

The Saints trailed 80-79 after a pair of free throws by Jeremiah Holloway with 1:18 left to go in the game.

Jax Bouknight missed a shot fall away jumper with 42 seconds left, but Jordon tapped the rebound out to Mason Manning at the top of the key. Jordon posted up a Lander player and got a pass from Hoku Fisher. Jordon pivoted around and split two Bearcats to get to the rim for a layup, which gave the Saints an 81-80 lead with 30 seconds left.

After a timeout, Lander ran the clock down and Holloway penetrated the lane for a layup, but Jordon blocked the shot and got the loose ball. He was fouled immediately with three seconds remaining. Jordon sank both free throws and Lander was not able to get a shot off as time ran out.

Bouknight led six Saints in double-figures with a team-high 22 points and he tallied six assists as well as pocketing four steals. Josiah Shackelford, Fisher, and Destin Clark each added 13 points. Jordon and Manning both finished with 11 points apiece. Manning grabbed seven rebounds.

Noah Dunn scored a game-high 24 points for the Bearcats. Inady Legiste added 20 points while Holloway contributed 13 points and tallied six assists. Tim Steele came off the bench to provide 11 points.

The game featured 12 ties and 17 lead changes. Lander had the largest lead of the game, seven points (51-44), with 14:54 left in the second half.

Flagler took advantage of 13 Lander turnovers as it cashed those in for 22 points.
