Saints down Sand Sharks thanks to Shackelford’s career day

ST. AUGUSTINE - Josiah Shackelford poured in a season high of 27 points and added seven rebounds to help Flagler College to an 81-75 win over USC Beaufort in a Peach Belt Conference men's basketball game this afternoon at Flagler Gym on "Senior Day."

Before the game, the Saints honored their two seniors, Destin Clark and Jax Bouknight, on their careers.

Flagler improved to 14-11 overall and 8-8 in PBC play. USC Beaufort drops to 18-8 overall and 10-6 in the conference. The Saints will hit the road for their next game to face PBC opponent Lander University on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. at Finis Horne Arena.

An Alejandro Ralat three-pointer got the Sand Sharks to within two (77-75) with 28 seconds left to go. But Hoku Fisher and Trevur Smalls sank their free throws to put the game away.

The Saints trailed by five in the last minute of first half (36-31). However, two good free throws and a solid three-pointer in the last five seconds, from Shackelford tied it up to end the half.

Bouknight added 16 points, two rebounds, and six assists for the Saints. Smalls finished with nine points and seven boards.
