ST. AUGUSTINE – Kiernan Caffrey's infield single drove in the go-ahead run in the 12
th inning as American International College defeated Flagler College 4-3 in a non-conference baseball game Friday evening at Drysdale Field.
American International evened its record at 1-1 while Flagler fell to 9-3. The same two teams conclude the series with a doubleheader tomorrow at 1 p.m.
Cole Patterson was hit by a pitch to start the top of the 12
th for the Yellow Jackets. He took second on a sacrifice bunt.
Jake Hill came in to keep the game tied as he replaced
Steven Reiss (1-1). Hill got the next batter to ground out, but Patterson was able to move to third base. Caffrey followed with a single into the hole between third base and shortstop.
Taylor Shultz got to the ground ball, but his throw across the diamond was not in time to get Caffrey at first base.
Romel Rocha (1-0), working in his second inning of relief, got the first two outs in the home-half of the 12
th.
Jesse Sullivan hit a single to left and
Jacob Reeves came in to run for him.
Caden Kresak got hit by a pitch and the Saints had the winning run on first base.
Carson Page lined out to center field to end the game.
Rocha tossed two scoreless innings, allowed two hits, and stuck out a batter to pick up the win in relief for AIC. Tim Krol started and allowed one earned run on four hits with six strikeouts. Anderson Cuello Batista followed Krol and tossed four scoreless innings, allowed one hit, walked four, and he struck out two.
Josh Frometa collected two singles and drove in a run for the Yellow Jackets. Yeudy Ramirez finished with a pair of singles and drove in two runs.
Reiss allowed one run on one hit in 1.1 innings of work in the loss for the Saints.
Cooper Smith started and allowed two earned runs on five hits in six innings. He struck out six.
Keegan Leckband and
Drew Rosenberg also saw time on the mound.
Eli Maddox went 2-for-3 with a double.
