ST. AUGUSTINE – Flagler College scored 22 runs and collected 25 hits in a doubleheader split with The University of Alabama in Huntsville Saturday afternoon at Drysdale Field. UAH won the opener 8-7 while Flagler took the nightcap 15-5 in eight innings.
Flagler improved to 2-1 while Alabama-Huntsville leaves with a 1-2 record. Flagler faces Saint Leo University next weekend for a three-game series at Thomas B. Southard Stadium.
In the second game, The Saints erupted for a seven-run sixth inning where they sent 12 men to the plate. That erased a 4-3 deficit.
Flagler walked it off in the bottom of the eighth inning with five runs. A two-run double by
Riley Fitzgerald and
Carson Page ended it with a two-run triple.
Isaiah Wellman (1-0) picked up the win in relief as he tossed 1.1 scoreless innings.
Daniel Fischer started and fanned four batters in four innings.
Justin Haskins and
Drew Rosenberg also pitched in relief.
Eli Maddox went 4-for-5 with a double and two runs batted in.
Caden Kresak collected three hits, including a double, and he scored three runs, and drove in another.
Taylor Shultz hit two singles, scored two runs, and knocked two more in.
Nick Compton (0-1) faced three batters in that sixth inning and allowed three runs on two hits and failed to retire a batter for the Chargers.
Will Noles hit a double, drove in a run, and scored a run. Ramie Harrison hit a double and scored a run.
With the scored tied at 7-all with two outs in the top of the ninth inning in the first game, Brock Butler drew a walk and the next three batters were hit, and pinch runner Caleb Mahan scored the go-ahead run.
AJ Hunerberg led off the bottom of the ninth with a walk and he stole second, but was stranded there as the next three batters went down in order.
Cory Hagood (1-0) closed the game for UAH. He tossed two scoreless innings in relief and fanned two batters.
Harrison went 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles, scored two runs, and had one RBI. Ian Reagan collected two singles, scored twice, and knocked in a run. Sean Lapinskes finished with two singles and two RBI.
Jake Hill (0-1) pitched the ninth for the Saints and allowed the run to get the loss.
Cooper Smith started and struck out four in 4.2 innings.
Eli Roberts,
Bryceton Berry, and
Blake Pesante all worked in relief.
Hunerberg led the Saints going 2-for-4 with a solo home run and he scored two runs. Page collected two singles and drove in a run.
