SAINT LEO, Fla. –
Ethan Bobo (1-0) recorded the win in relief as he tossed five innings with six strikeouts to help Flagler College hold off Saint Leo University 8-5 in a non-conference baseball game Friday night at Thomas B. Southard Stadium.
Flagler improved to 3-1 while Saint Leo dropped to 3-2. The same two teams meet in a doubleheader tomorrow starting at 1 p.m.
The Saints trailed 2-1 going into the top of the fourth inning.
Carson Page led off by reaching on an error by the Lions right fielder and advanced to second on the play.
Payton Palladino's single up the middle put runners on the corners. Kyle Scrape (1-1) was called for a balk and Page scored the tying run and Palladino went to second base. He took third on a sacrifice bunt and scored the go-ahead run on a squeeze bunt by
Taylor Shultz.
Flagler added a run in the fifth and three more in the seventh thanks to a three-run home run by Palladino.
Saint Leo, trailing 8-5 in the bottom of the ninth, started the frame with an infield hit and a walk. Bobo retired the next three in a row to quell the rally. He allowed two runs on four hits with two walks. Bobo induced seven flyouts and two ground outs.
Ben Stubbs started on the hill for Flagler and tossed 2.1 innings.
Steven Reiss followed for 1.2 innings.
Palladino finished with a career high three hits, including the home run, a career best four runs batted in, and he scored two runs.
Caden Kresak hit two doubles while Page added two singles, scored three runs, and had one RBI. Shultz collected two singles and drove in a run.
Scrape allowed one earned run on five hits in four innings for the Lions.
Adam Berry went 2-for-4 with a home run, two runs scored, and he drove in two runs. Braden Killens went 2-for-4 with a double and had one RBI.
