COLUMBUS, Ga. –
Josiah Shackelford came off the bench to score a team-high 17 points as Flagler College put up a strong showing against No. 10 (NABC Division II Top 25) Columbus State University in a 66-62 loss in a Peach Belt Conference men's basketball game Wednesday night at the Frank G. Lumpkin, Jr. Center.
Columbus State won its sixth game in a row and improved to 22-3 overall and 13-2 in the Peach Belt. Flagler is now 13-11 overall and 7-8 in conference play. The Saints host their final regular season home game on Saturday against USC Beaufort at 3:30 p.m. on "Senior Day."
The Saints trailed at the half 27-26, but the Cougars would use a 9-0 run late in the second half. Roman Son's layup with 5:41 left in the game gave Columbus State a 56-46 lead.
Flagler scored the next eight points as
Jaylen Jordon's layup with 3:44 cut the deficit to a basket (56-54), but the Saints could not get any closer than two points.
Hoku Fisher sank a three-pointer with seven seconds left to go and Flagler trailed 64-62. But Wisdom Uboh made both free throw attempts with five seconds left for Columbus State.
Jordon finished with a double-double, 12 points and 11 rebounds, and he added three blocked shots.
Trevur Smalls tacked on 13 points.
Jarrett Adderton notched a double-double as he scored a game-high 22 points and grabbed 10 rebounds. Uboh and Son each added 10 points.
The Cougars forced 25 turnovers and cashed those in for 24 points.
