Abby Smith’s 16 points helps lead Saints over Lakers

ST. AUGUSTINE – Abby Smith tied her season high with 16 points as Flagler College defeated Clayton State University 76-72 in a Peach Belt Conference women's basketball game Saturday afternoon at Flagler Gym.
 
Flagler improved to 10-13 overall and 6-8 in the Peach Belt. The Saints took both games from the Lakers this season, which was the first time that has happened in the all-time series. Clayton State dropped to 9-15 overall and 6-8 in conference play.

Destiny McClendon sank three free throws to give Flagler its largest lead (74-61) with 3:13 left to play, but Clayton State went on an 11-1 run to close the game to three, 75-72, with 19 seconds left after Sariya Henry layup. McClendon made the second of two free throws with six seconds left to insure the win.

McClendon finished with 15 points with 10 of those coming on the free throw line. Jessica Dowdy and Aspen Weeks each added 10 points. Carleigh Grimm chipped in with eight points, seven rebounds, and blocked two shots while Se'Lah Reddick scored six points, grabbed seven rebounds, tallied six assists, and had three steals.  

Kyla Green scored a game-high 17 points coming off the bench for the Lakers. Ky'Leo Worriels recorded a double-double with 13 points and she corralled a game-high 13 rebounds. Jadah Waite added 10 points.
