COLUMBUS, Ga. –
Sharale McCormick scored a team-high 22 points and grabbed eight rebounds in Flagler College's 76-71 win at Columbus State University in a Peach Belt Conference women's basketball game Wednesday evening at the Frank G. Lumpkin, Jr. Center.
Flagler won its third game in a row and is now 11-13 overall and 7-8 in the Peach Belt. This was the first win for the Saints at Columbus since Jan. 5, 2022 when they won 71-69. Flagler moves into sixth place in the league standings and is one game back of Georgia Southwestern State University who is in fourth place. The top four teams host a quarterfinal game in the PBC Tournament. Columbus State had its three-game winning streak snapped and they fell to 17-7 overall and 11-4 in conference play. It was only the second loss at home for the Lady Cougars this year. The Saints host USC-Beaufort on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. in the final home game of the regular season.
Flagler blistered the nets in the second quarter making 57.1 percent (8-for-14) of its shots from the field and shot the same from 3-point range (4-for-7). The Saints held a 41-26 lead at the half.
The lead would swell to as many as 20 (54-34) in the third quarter after a
Se'Lah Reddick layup with 5:43 remaining in the quarter.
The Lady Cougars followed with a 15-4 run to trim the deficit to nine (58-49) late in the third. An Olanna Rawls' layup with 1:34 left to go in the game made it a two-possession game (72-67), but that would be as close as Columbus State would come.
Flagler sank 10-of-21 from the three-point line for a 47.6 shooting percentage. McCormick made four of those three-pointers. The last time the Saints made that many treys was Jan. 8 vs. USC Aiken. Flagler also out-rebounded Columbus State 47-36. Reddick grabbed a career-high 14 rebounds.
Destiny McClendon added 16 points for the Saints while Reddick tacked on 12 points and tallied five assists to go along with her haul in rebounds.
Marley Smith corralled seven rebounds.
Letiya Reeves scored a game-high 23 points for Columbus State. Rawls added 12 points, five rebounds, and three steals.
