ST. AUGUSTINE - No. 7 (ITA Division II Top 25) ranked Flagler College capped off their season opener with a 6-1 win against Palm Beach Atlantic University Friday afternoon at the Pollard Tennis Center.
Flagler improved to 1-0 while Palm Beach Atlantic dropped to 0-3. The Saints will take on the Rollins College on Sunday at the USTA National Tennis Center in Orlando.
The Saints started the day by sweeping the sailfish in doubles. The current No. 27 doubles team
Dana Heimen and
Anastasia Nikolova were the first ones to finish, defeating Cecilia Peroni and Si Karlsson Hantzis 6-4. On court two,
Laura Jipescu and Poly Nikolova also defeated their opponents, Alina Hoermann and Valeria Lopez, 6-4. The nail in the coffin was on court three with Sophia Balsera and
Adela Latalova defeating Elsa Brenner and Anarella Brito, 7-5.
Courts one and three finished in the same fashion with No. 5Â Heimen defeating Hoermann 6-2 in both sets on court one, and Latalova defeating Virginia Borja 6-2 on court three. Clinching the win for the Saints wasÂ
Anastasia Nikolova's win on court two against Karlsson. She won set one 6-3 followed by 6-1 in set two.
No. 47 Jipescu got her first 2025 regular season win after a hard 7-5 first set against Peroni. Jipescu cleaned up and swept Peroni 6-0 in the following set. The final match to wrap up for the Saints winning campaign was Balsera versus Alessia Passerini. Balsera took set one 6-4 then set two in 6-3.
