ST. AUGUSTINE –
Cassidy Bloom recorded her second double-double of the season with 10 kills and 13 digs but it wasn't enough as Flagler College lost to Lander University 3-1 (24-26, 27-25, 18-25, 25-27) in a Peach Belt Conference volleyball match Friday night at Flagler Gymnasium.
Flagler dropped to 8-11 overall and 2-2 in the Peach Belt. The Saints were playing their first home match since Sept. 13. Lander improved to 9-7 overall and 2-3 in conference play. Flagler hosts Georgia College & State University tomorrow at 3 p.m. in another conference tilt.
Marley Middlebrooks led the Saints with 21 kills, and she added nine digs.
Katherine Rank tacked on 11 kills and hit .364 with just two errors on 22 swings. She added three total blocks to her line.
Clare Sheedy tallied 44 assists and had nine digs.
Katie Miller recorded a match-high 25 kills and boasted a .322 hitting percentage as she had six errors on 59 swings. Miller completed the double-double with 11 digs. Enisilina Savelio tallied 36 assists and had six total blocks. Amelia May added six total blocks as the team finished with 11.0.
In the fourth set, the Bearcats opened with a 17-8 lead only to see the Saint rally and tie the score on match point (24-24) after a
Gracie Fleming ace. A kill by Ryleigh Willard and an ace by Krista Lauck closed the match.
