DAHLONEGA, Ga. – Flagler College opened the game on a 22-8 run but the University of North Georgia rallied for an 84-77 victory in a Peach Belt Conference men's basketball game Saturday afternoon at the UNG Convocation Center.
North Georgia snapped a three-game losing streak and improved to 10-4 overall and 2-0 in the Peach Belt. Flagler dropped to 7-4 overall and 1-1 in conference play. Up next for the Saints is USC Aiken on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. at Flagler Gym.
Josiah Shackelford's 3-pointer gave the Saints a 22-8 lead with 12:26 left in the first half. North Georgia chipped away and took a 29-28 lead after an A.J. White layup with 2:55 left in the opening half. The Nighthawks took a 33-32 lead into the break.
The lead would go back and forth, but White's basket with 6:53 left in the game gave UNG a lead (64-62) it would not relinquish.
After shooting 33.3 percent from the field in the first half, the Nighthawks shot a blistering 69.6 percent (16-23) in the second half.
Jax Bouknight scored 16 of his team-high 21 points in the first half for Flagler.
Hoku Fisher added 16 points and a game-high seven assists.
Jaylen Jordon recorded his seventh double-double of the year with 10 points and a game-high 12 rebounds. Shackelford came off the bench to provide 14 points.
The Saints knocked down 10-of-20 three-pointers with Bouknight and Fisher each making four.
Colin Turner led North Georgia with 19 points and nine rebounds while White finished with 19 points, five rebounds, four assists, and he had two steals. Ja'mari Arnold added 11 points.
