ST. AUGUSTINE – Jalen McCoy's pull-up jumper with 23 seconds left in the game helped USC Aiken hold off Flagler College 89-84 in a Peach Belt Conference men's basketball game Wednesday evening at Flagler Gym.
Flagler lost its third game in a row, all by eight points or less, and fell to 7-5 overall and 1-2 in the Peach Belt. USC Aiken won its fourth game in its last five to improve to 9-4 overall and 2-1 in conference play.
The Saints went for the tie trailing 87-84 with 17 seconds left.
Jax Bouknight's three-point attempt with 17 seconds rimmed out and Simeon German corralled the rebound for the Pacers. He was fouled immediately and sank both free throws.
The game was close throughout with neither team sporting a lead more than eight points. There were 10 ties and eight lead changes. Flagler held a 47-46 lead at the break.
Josiah Shackelford came off the bench to score a team-high 18 points.
Destin Clark added 14 points and eight rebounds.
Jaylen Jordon chipped in with 14 points and six rebounds. Bouknight finished with 14 points, three rebounds, three assists, and three steals.
Flagler out-scored USC Aiken 54-38, but was limited to 5-of-24 shooting from long range.
Davion Cunningham scored a game-high 24 points as he sank four 3-pointers and he added five rebounds for the Pacers. Jalen McCoy contributed 23 points and seven rebounds.
