ST. AUGUSTINE – Flagler College led 75-74 with two minutes left in the game but Lander University closed with an 8-2 run to capture an 82-77 win in a Peach Belt Conference men's basketball game Wednesday night at Flagler Gym.
Lander improved to 11-7 overall and 5-3 in the Peach Belt. Flagler is now 10-7 overall and 4-4 in league play. The Saints face the University of North Georgia on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. at Flagler Gym.
The Saints trailed by four with three minutes left in the game until
Josiah Shackelford buried a three-pointer and
Jax Bouknight stole the ball and took it in for a fastbreak layup to stake the Saints to a one-point lead.
But Inady Legiste's put-back with 1:41 remaining gave the Bearcats the lead (76-75) and sparked the run to close the game. Lander made all six of its free throw attempts with a minute-plus left.
Legiste recorded a double-double with 25 points and 11 rebounds. Noah Dunn came off the bench to add 19 points. Sebastian Augustave and Torrin Andrews chipped in with 12 and 11 points, respectively.
Shackelford led the Saints with 22 points on 7-of-13 shooting from the floor, including 5-of-7 from three-point range. Bouknight finished with 15 points, five assists, and three steals.
Jaylen Jordon had 14 points and seven rebounds.
Mason Manning tacked on nine points and six boards.
