Women's Track and Field Wraps up Their Season Opener

GAINESVILLE, Fla. - The Flagler College women's track and field team finished up their season opener at the Jimmy Carnes Invitational. Representing one of five Division II schools, the Saints provided a strong showing against stiff competition.

The long day started for the Saints with their field events, the long jump and shot put. Representing Flagler were Zoe Zinnie and Sara Miller, with Zinnie jumping the best of the day at 4.49 meters. Zinnie and Miller saw quality competition against multiple Division I teams such as the University of South Florida, Florida State University and Florida International University. The weights section of the day saw Mya Peterson compete in the shot put where she threw for 7.40 meters.

The 60 meter dash saw Madison Miller narrowly beat teammate Zoe Zinnie in the preliminary race. Miller clocked in 8.43 while Zinnie followed at 8.45.

Senior Maddi Hood started her season placing 28th in the 400 meter dash. Her time of 1:04.16 put her ahead of multiple Division I athletes from institutions such as Jacksonville University. Madison Miller led the pack of Saints in the 200 meter dash with a time of 28:49. Making her collegiate debut was Tessa Thompson who claimed second for the Saints in the 200, running a 29:30.

Freshman Margot O'Brien led the way against a stacked card of 3000 meter runners, pulling in a time of 11:07.38 in her collegiate debut. O'Brien placed 10th among all Division II runners.

The Saints will be back in action next week to take on the RADD Sports Invitational at the Alachua County Sports Complex.
