ST. AUGUSTINE – Georgia Southwestern State University pitcher Andrew Geiger (5-1) tossed a complete game in an 8-1 win over Flagler College in a Peach Belt Conference baseball game Sunday afternoon at Drysdale Field.
Georgia Southwestern improved to 27-11 overall and 11-7 in the Peach Belt. Flagler dropped to 16-20 overall and 9-9 in conference play. The Saints head to Daytona Beach, Florida on Tuesday to face Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University at 6 p.m.
Brant Deerman belted a two-run home run to left field to stake the Hurricanes to an early 2-0 lead. The 'Canes added an unearned run later in inning.
That's all Geiger would need as he scattered seven hits and allowed one run with seven strikeouts.
The lone run for the Saints came in the third inning.
Caden Kresak led off the frame with a walk and came around to score on
Jesse Sullivan's base hit to cut the Flagler deficit to 5-1.
Isaiah Wellman (0-2) took the loss on the hill for the Saints. He allowed three earned runs on four hits in 1.1 innings.
Benjamin Stubbs followed and held Georgia Southwestern in check for 4.2 innings. He surrendered one run on three hits with three walks and four strikeouts.
Eight-of-the-nine Hurricane batters had a hit. Miles Hartsfield hit a two-run homer run and finished with three runs batted in. Matthew Manuel hit a double, scored a run, and drove in another.
Trey Newland collected three singles and stole a base for the Saints.
Payton Palladino went 2-for-4 with a triple.
