ST. AUGUSTINE –
Taylor Clapp collected three singles and drove in three runs to help lead Flagler College to a 4-1 win over Palm Beach Atlantic University in the final non-conference baseball game of the season Tuesday night at Drysdale Field.
Flagler improved to 23-22 overall and Palm Beach Atlantic fell to 15-25. The Saints close out the regular season at home with a three-game set against Augusta University starting on Friday at 6 p.m.
The Saints took an early lead thanks to
Mason Gray who hit a one-out single then advanced to third base on a slow grounder to the PBA third baseman. Gray was moving on the pitch and saw an unguarded third base bag as he rounded second. He scored on Clapp's single.
The insurance run came in the third after
Trey Newland reached on an infield single to lead off the inning. He stole second base and went third on a fly out.
Jesse Sullivan followed with a sacrifice fly to center field.
That's all the Flagler pitching staff needed. Eight different pitchers threw tonight and they scattered four hits and allowed one unearned run.
Huston Wynne (1-2) was credited with the win as he tossed two scoreless innings and allowed one walk.
Parker Adams pitched a scoreless ninth as he gave up a single to earn his second save.
David Chenoweth (0-1) surrendered one run on three hits with a pair of strikeouts in the loss for the Sailfish.
Patrick Rakes and Kody Kelly each had two singles.
