ST. AUGUSTINE –
Jesse Sullivan collected three singles and he drove in four runs, but it was RBI single in the ninth that ended the game and gave Flagler College a hard-fought 13-12 win over Augusta University in a Peach Belt Conference baseball game Friday night at Drysdale Field.
Flagler improved to 24-22 overall and 14-11 in the Peach Belt. The walk-off win was the sixth this season for the Saints. Augusta lost its third game in a row and fell to 23-23 overall and 12-13 in conference play. The same two teams meet tomorrow at 2 p.m. on "Dave Barnett Day." Festivities to honor the career of Flagler's longtime coach will begin at 1:15 p.m.
The Saints trailed 9-4 in the seventh and scored six runs on six hits, but took advantage of two Jaguar errors to take their first lead of the game. Flagler added another in the eighth to take an 11-9 lead only to see Parker Ingram blast a three-run home run in the top of the ninth.
Augusta brought in closer Britt Kelly (3-2) in the bottom of the ninth. He allowed an infield single to
Bryce Fitzgerald who was then sacrificed to second base.
Trey Newland laced a double to right-center to score Fitzgerald and tie the game.
Mason Gray was intentionally walked and Sullivan hit the first pitch her saw into left-center and Newland scored easily.
Brad Vondruska (3-1), the 10
th pitcher used by the Saints, got the win after allowing one run on two hits with one walk in one inning pitched. He came on to pitch in the ninth after
Parker Adams had walked the first two hitters.
The Saints pounded out 18 hits. Newland went 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles, three runs scored, and two runs batted in. Fitzgerald went 3-for-5 with a triple and he scored three runs.
Caden Kresak finished 2-for-4 with a double, a run scored, and he had two RBI.
Kelly allowed two runs on three hits with a walk in one-third of an inning as he took the loss for Augusta.
Mike Morrison finished with three singles and he scored three runs. Kyle Lodise hit a pair of doubles, scored a run, and he drove in four runs. Kyle LaRoche hit two doubles, scored two runs, and knocked in two more.
