ST. AUGUSTINE –
Sydney Stewart knocked a grand slam in the first game of the day to put the Saints on the board and help take the win 7-6 over Augusta University. Game two ended in a low scoring 1-0 win for the Jags.
Game one saw lots of early runs with final scores coming for both teams in the third inning. Augusta put up three runs to take the lead right away in the top of the first. The Saints followed in the bottom of the second with four runs on four hits.
Mackenzie Smith singled to right field with one out to get a runner on for Flagler. Another single put Konowalchuk on first and advanced Smith to second.
Kiersten James grounded out to advance both runners into scoring position before
Paige Maseda drew a walk to make it bases loaded. Stewart connected on a ball that easily cleared the fence in left center for a grand slam, putting the Saints up 4-3 to end the inning.
The Jags took the lead once again in the top of the third scoring three runs to make it 6-4. The final runs for the Saints came in the bottom of the third, the first on a solo homer by
Cassidy Crump to start the inning.
Mackenzie Smith singled through the right side to get on bae with one out and
Rylee Konowalchuk sent a ball over the left field fence for a two-run home run. The Saints took game one 7-6 and
Madelyn Wise earned the win after pitching five innings and striking out four batters.
Game two only saw one run in the game, coming on a solo homer for Augusta in the top of the fifth. The Saints had an opportunity in the bottom of the fourth with runners in scoring position, but the Jags defense proved strong and kept a run from getting home.
The Saints will finish their series against Augusta for the final game of the regular season on Sunday (April 21) at 12 p.m. at Flagler Field. Senior Day festivities will begin at 11:45 a.m.
