SAINT LEO, Fla. – The Flagler College softball team fell in their doubleheader at Saint Leo on Tuesday afternoon. The Saints fell in game one 1-0 and 4-0 in game two.
Flagler held Saint Leo to only one run in game one with the Lions scoring their only run in the bottom of the first. The Saints had a runner in scoring position in the top of the fifth, after a single from
Kyla Knier and a sacrifice bunt that advanced her to second. A double from
Mackenzie Smith in the top of the seventh gave Flagler an opportunity, but they were unable to capitalize.
Paige Maseda and
Mackenzie Smith both went 1-for-2 in game one.
In game two, Saint Leo scored their first run in the bottom of the first. The top of the fifth saw a good opportunity for the Saints.
Rylee Konowalchuk started it off with a walk and was followed by a single from
Cassidy Crump.
Paige Maseda reached on a fielder's choice that saw Crump out at second and Burns, pinch running for Konowalchuk, at third. Flagler had runners on second and third, but a line out to third base ended the inning before a run could score.
Saint Leo added three more runs in the bottom of the fifth and ended the game 4-0.
The Saints travel to Greenwood, S.C. to face Lander University in a weekend series at Doug Spears Field starting April 5.
