WINTER PARK, Fla. – Flagler College scored six runs on one hit and sent 11 men to the plate in the ninth inning in a 9-2 win over Rollins College in a non-conference baseball game Tuesday afternoon at Alfond Stadium at Harper-Shepherd Field.
Flagler won its fourth game in its last five to improve to 20-21 overall. Rollins had its four-game winning streak snapped and fell to 22-15 overall. The Saints swept the two-game series this year. Up next for Flagler is a three-game series at USC Beaufort, which begins Friday at 6 p.m.
The Saints held a 2-0 lead through five innings and a
Riley Fitzgerald run-scoring single in the sixth plated the insurance run before a crazy ninth inning.
The Tars pulled to within one in the bottom of the eighth after Jack Herring hit a two-run home run.
Rollins reliever Paul Janeczko came in to pitch to start the ninth. He hit the first batter and walked the next. A sacrifice bunt moved the runners up a base and an intentional walk loaded the bases. Sammy Lake came in to try and keep the Saints off the board. He walked the next three batters and Flagler increased its lead to 6-2. Jackson Edelman followed Lake on the mound for the Tars.
Payton Palladino hit a two-run single to give the Saints an 8-2 lead. The last run scored on a fielding error.
Eli Roberts (1-0) won his first collegiate game as he tossed five scoreless innings. He allowed one hit, walked two, and struck out three. Roberts was one of seven pitchers used in the game.
Palladino went 2-for-4 with a solo home run and three runs batted in.
Trey Newland finished 2-for-4 with a solo home run and he scored two runs.
Riley Fitzgerald singled twice and had one run batted in.
Jacob Burr (1-2) allowed two runs on six hits in five innings of work. He was one of seven Tars to pitch.
