ST. AUGUSTINE – The Flagler College softball team earned the final win to take the weekend series against USC Aiken, in run-rule fashion, 14-6.
The first inning saw nine total runs between the two teams with the Pacers scoring three to start things off.
Sydney Stewart led the order for the Saints drawing a walk off of full count to start it off, followed by a bunt single by
Emily Ricci. The first run scored off a single through the right side from
Hannah Smith that brought in Stewart.
Kyla Knier drew a walk with two outs and a wild pitch scored Ricci. A two-RBI double to right field by
Jordan Moss brought Knier and Smith home to make it 4-3. Moss scored on a single from
Kiersten James and the final run of the inning was scored by James on a double from
Paige Maseda.
The Pacers added another run in the top of the second, but
Hannah Smith knocked a two-run homer over center field to extend the lead 8-4. USC Aiken retaliated with a solo homer of their own in the top of the third. The bottom of the third saw three runs on four hits for the Saints. Runners were on first and second when Stewart connected for a double down the right field line, scoring Maseda and James to make it 10-5. Another run was scored on an infield single by
Cassidy Crump. The Pacers added a run in the top of the sixth to make it 11-6 in favor of the Saints.
The game ended in a run-rule in the bottom of the sixth for the Saints. A throwing error scored Burns who came into pinch run, putting the Saints up by six. Crump scored on a double through the left side by Moss and the final run came on an error that scored
Reese Snipes, ending it 14-6.
Madelyn Wise (9-2) earned the win for Flagler after pitching 5.2 innings, facing 24 batters and striking out six.
The Saints will face Augusta University at Flagler Field for the final series of the regular season on April 20-21.
