ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – The Flagler College softball team lost the final game of the series against Georgia Southwestern State University (GSW) in a high scoring game on Saturday.
Flagler was the first to score with four runs on four hits in the bottom of the first.
Emily Ricci started things off with a double down the right field line.
Hannah Smith followed that up with a double of her own to score Ricci. A two-run homer over the right field fence from
Cassidy Crump made it 3-0.
Kyla Knier drew a walk and advanced to third on a single by
Mackenzie Smith, then scored on a wild pitch.
GSW added two runs of their own in the top of the second, but Flagler pushed on adding two more runs to their lead.
Hannah Smith connected to send a ball over the right field fence to score herself and
Sydney Stewart in the bottom of the second. GSW pushed back and closed the gap to make it 6-4 in the top of the third.
The top of the fifth saw four runs on two hits for the Lady Hurricanes, taking the lead at 8-6. The Saints fought back to take the lead again in the bottom of the fifth with a solo homerun from
Jordan Moss. An error from the Lady Hurricanes allowed Maseda to score. GSW tabbed four more runs in the top of the sixth to make it 12-9. Flagler added their final run in the bottom of the seventh but it was not enough, falling to Georgia Southwestern 12-10.
The Saints will face UVA Wise in a doubleheader on Wednesday (March 13) at 12 p.m. at Flagler Field.
