ORANGEBURG, S.C. – Flagler College erased a 2-0 deficit with a six-run third inning and went on to defeat Claflin University 15-3, in seven innings, in a Peach Belt Conference baseball game Friday night at Historic Mirmow Field.
Flagler improved to 13-17 overall and 6-7 in the Peach Belt. Claflin dropped to 1-28 overall and 0-13 in conference play. The same two teams meet in a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m.
The Saints loaded the bases to start the third, thanks to a walk and two hit batters. An error by the shortstop allowed the first run to score, and two batters later,
Taylor Clapp hit a two-run single to give Flagler a 3-2 lead. Another hit batter loaded the bases and
Donovan Garcia drew a bases loaded walk. Relief pitcher Khalil Hassan walked the first batter he saw and then threw a wild pitch to give the Saints a 6-2 lead. Flagler sent 11 men to the plate in that inning and scored six runs on one hit.
The Saints added four more in the fifth, two in the sixth, and three more in the seventh.
Daniel Fischer (3-4) allowed three runs on five hits in four innings of work to get the win.
Parker Adams tossed three scoreless innings with two strikeouts to pick up his first collegiate save.
Payton Palladino went 2-for-4 with a home run, three runs batted in, and he scored three runs for Flagler. Clapp finished with a pair of singles, scored four runs, and drove in two more.
Anthony Mack (0-6) took the loss for the Panthers as he allowed five earned runs on just one hit, but hit three batters and walked a pair. He struck out the side in the first inning.
D.J. Mungenast went 2-for-3 with a double and he scored a run.
