Trey Newland's two-out infield single scored
Bryce Fitzgerald from third as Flagler College edged Florida Tech 1-0, in 10 innings, in a non-conference baseball game Tuesday night at Drysdale Field.
Flagler improved to 12-17 overall and won its second extra inning game of the season. Florida Tech dropped to 12-17. The Saints head to Orangeburg, South Carolina to take on Claflin University in a three-game weekend Peach Belt Conference series. The first game is Friday at 6 p.m.
Fitzgerald led off the bottom of the 10
th with a single into the hole at shortstop. After a bunt attempt was popped up and caught, Fitzgerald stole second base.
Jaxson Wentworth grounded out to first and Fitzgerald moved over to third. Newland grounded the second pitch he saw towards the hole a shortstop. Jason Blackstone got to the ball, but the throw was too late to get the speedy Newland at first base. Fitzgerald was the lone player in the game to step on home plate and score a run.
Brad Vondruska (1-1) tossed two scoreless innings in relief to earn the win. He struck out three and allowed one hit.
Justin Haskins started and hurled five scoreless innings, allowed two hits, and struck out three.
Bryceton Berry walked one and fanned two in three scoreless innings of relief before Vondruska entered.
Fitzgerald had half of the Saints hits with two singles.
Matthew Burke also had a single.
Tyler Vermillion (4-2) allowed one run on two hits in 1.2 innings pitched and got the loss.
Blackstone, Carlos Guzman, and Brett Kelly each finished with a single for the Panthers.
