HARDEEVILLE, S.C. –
Paige Maseda's two-run double sparked a three-run seventh inning as Flagler College rallied to defeat USC Beaufort 5-3 in a Peach Belt Conference softball game Sunday afternoon at the Richard Gray Sports Complex.
Flagler swept the series and improved to 22-9 overall and 7-2 in the Peach Belt. USC Beaufort dropped to 13-15 overall and 1-11 in conference play. The Saints host Allen University in a doubleheader on Wednesday at 3 p.m. at Saints Field.
Kyla Knier led off the top of the seventh with an infield single. Trailing 3-2, the Saints bunted Knier over to second base. Following a strikeout, Knier moved to third, with the tying run, after a wild pitch.
Kiersten James drew a walk and then Maseda's double scored both runs to put Flagler on top, 4-3.
Sydney Stewart added a double to center field to score Maseda with the insurance run.
Madelyn Wise (7-2), working in her third inning of relief, retired the side in order in the bottom of the seventh. She allowed one run on two hits to earn the win.
Rylee Konowalchuk hit a solo home run in the fifth inning.
Abigail Ramirez (2-6) took the loss for the Sand Sharks. She started the seventh in relief, and surrendered three runs on three hits.
Katelyn Boyette went 2-for-4 with a home run and two runs batted in. Jaci Coleman hit two singles for USC Beaufort.
