ALBANY, Ga. – Flagler College took an early 5-0 lead only to see Albany State University rally back for a 13-8 win in a non-conference baseball game Wednesday afternoon at the ASU West Campus Baseball Field.
Albany State improved to 13-7 while Flagler is now 8-14. The Saints open a three-game series at home this weekend against USC Aiken with the first game on Friday at 6 p.m.
A pair of RBI singles by
Kevin RisCassi and
Payton Palladino got the Saints on the board in the first inning, and
Mason Gray's two-run double in the second gave Flagler a 5-0 lead.
The Golden Rams pushed across two runs in the bottom of the second and then three straight run-scoring singles produced three runs in the third to tie the game at 5-all.
Hill Corley's RBI-single in the fourth drove home the go-ahead run for Albany State and it never trailed again. The Golden Rams added a run in the sixth, two more in the seventh, and four in the eighth.
Calvin Baker (4-1) picked up the win in relief. He tossed two scoreless innings, allowed one hit, walked two batters, and struck two more out.
Nathan Saavedra paced the 15-hit attack as he went 3-for-4 with a home run, six runs batted in, and he scored two runs. Corley also went 3-for-4 with a home run, scored two runs, and knocked in two more.
Drew Rosenberg (0-1) took the loss as he allowed one run on three hits in 1.1 innings of work.
Riley Fitzgerald led the Saints with three singles and he scored two runs.
Trey Newland went 2-for-4 with a double, two runs scored, and two RBI.
Jaxson Wentworth finished with two hits, including a double, and he scored a run.
