ST. AUGUSTINE –
Taylor Clapp belted a two-run home run in the bottom of the eighth to snap a scoreless tie and helped lead Flagler College to a 3-0 win over the University of South Carolina Aiken in a Peach Belt Conference baseball Friday night at Drysdale Field.
Flagler snapped a four-game losing streak to improve to 9-14 overall and 3-4 in the Peach Belt. USC Aiken lost its seventh game in a row and fell to 7-17 overall and 3-4 in conference play.
The game was a pitcher's duel for the first seven innings. Through five innings, the Saints got the lone two base runners in the game into scoring position.
Flagler starter
Daniel Fischer tossed 6.1 scoreless innings, allowed three hits and walked three to go along with three strikeouts. His counterpart, Jacob Fletcher (1-3), scattered seven hits, allowed two runs, walked two, and fanned seven. He tossed 129 pitches, but his last pitch was Clapp's home run.
The Saints pushed across an additional run in the eighth when
Jaxson Wentworth's single to left scored
Donovan Garcia.
Matthew Burke had two of Flagler's nine hits, both singles.
Blake Pesante (3-0) earned the win in relief. He scattered two hits in two scoreless innings to close the game. Pesante struck out two batters.
Kaden Usry collected two singles for the Pacers.
