DAHLONEGA, Ga. –
Omar Figueroa led Flagler College with 16 points in a 76-65 loss at No. 6 (NABC Division II Top 25) University of North Georgia in a Peach Belt Conference men's basketball game Saturday afternoon at the UNG Convocation Center.
North Georgia won its fifth game in a row and improved to 18-2 overall and 9-1 in the Peach Belt. The Nighthawks are a perfect 10-0 at home. Flagler had its six-game winning streak ended and fell to 13-7 overall and 6-4 in conference play. The Saints host USC Aiken on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. at Flagler Gymnasium.
The Nighthawks jumped out to a 9-1 lead and then extended it to 16-4 after a Sutton Smith three-pointer. The Saints chipped away and tied the game at 20 after a layup by
Kyle Young. A
Destin Clark trey with 37 seconds left cut Flagler's deficit to 34-29, which was the score at the half.
Flagler trailed by as many as 10 with seven minutes to go in the game, but was able to pull to within three (56-53) after a Figueroa three.
North Georgia went on a 13-5 tear over the next 2:52 to pull away.
Clark finished with 12 points, five rebounds, and three assists for the Saints.
Tyler Collier added 11 points and seven rebounds.
Flagler was held to a season-low 34.4 shooting percentage from the field.
AJ White poured in 27 points while Frank Champion recorded a double-double with 16 points and 12 rebounds. Cayden Charles added 15 points and six rebounds.
