ST. AUGUSTINE –
Jalen Barr erupted to score a career-high 22 points and he led four Flagler College players in double-figures in an 84-60 rout of Lander University in a Peach Belt Conference men's basketball game Wednesday night at Flagler Gymnasium.
Flagler improved to 17-10 overall and 10-7 in the Peach Belt. The Saints sit in fourth place win one game to go, and that is Saturday at 3:30 p.m. against Georgia Southwestern State University. Lander fell to 20-7 overall and 12-5 in conference play. The Bearcats are in a tie for second place.
The Saints went on a 15-0 tear just after the midway point in the first half. The Bearcats held a 21-20 lead with 8:42 to go in the first half, but
Omar Figueroa's layup started the 4-minute, 6-second run.
Flagler held a 43-25 lead at the half. The Saints led by as many as 38 in the second half.
Barr made 10-of-12 from the field and added five rebounds, three steals, and two assists to his line. Figueroa and
Jax Bouknight each added 18 points while
Malik Bryant tacked on 11 more.
The Saints shot a season-best 57.1 percent from the field, including shooting at a 60 percent clip in the second half alone. Flagler took advantage of 14 Lander turnovers and converted those into 24 points.
Nigel Colvin came off the bench to lead the Bearcats in scoring with nine points.
