ST. AUGUSTINE –
Destin Clark made his return to the Flagler College lineup and he led the team with 17 points and six rebounds in a 69-62 victory over Georgia Southwestern State University in a Peach Belt Conference men's basketball game Saturday afternoon at Flagler Gymnasium.
Flagler wraps up the regular season with an 18-10 overall record and an 11-7 mark in the Peach Belt. The Saints, who are on a five-game win streak, finished in fourth place and will take on Augusta University in a quarterfinal game on Wednesday at Aiken, South Carolina. Georgia Southwestern finished its season at 16-12 overall and 8-10 in conference play. They will have to wait for the conclusion of Sunday's game between Columbus State University and Georgia College & State University to see where they will be seeded.
The last game Clark played was Feb. 17 at Clayton State University.
The game was close throughout with no team leading by more than eight points. There were eight ties and 14 lead changes.
The Saints used a 10-0 spurt over a 2-minute, 24-second span midway through the second half.
Malik Bryant, one of Flagler's five seniors honored before the game, started the run by making three-of-four free throw attempts and a
Jax Bouknight layup with 7:43 remaining tied the game at 52.
Tyler Collier, another Flagler senior, drained a three pointer with seven-plus minutes left to give the Saints the lead for good.
The Hurricanes pulled to within one point (59-58) after a Jalen Johnson layup, but
Omar Figueroa scored the next five points by himself to extend Flagler's lead.
Figueroa finished with 13 points while Bryant added 12 points and three steals for the Saints.
Jalen Barr, a senior, tacked on 10 points, six rebounds, and three steals in his final home game. Collier had five points and six rebounds.
Spencer Bain and
Jack Webster were the other two Flagler seniors playing in their final home games.
Johnson and Christian Koonce each tallied 15 points for Georgia Southwestern. Jaylen Jordan added 10 points and eight rebounds while Tim Hall, Jr. also had 10 points.
