MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The Flagler College softball team took the final game of the series against Georgia College and State University in a 7-5 victory on Sunday afternoon.
The Bobcats scored the first run of the game in the bottom of the second. The Saints followed that in the top of the third with five runs on four hits. Sydney Stewart was the first on base with a single through the left side and Hannah Smith drew a walk to make it two runners on base. With two outs, Cassidy Crump connected on a triple through the right side that scored Stewart and Hannah Smith for the first two runs for the Saints. Kyla Knier followed it up with an RBI single up the middle that brought in Crump. After a pitching change for the Bobcats, Mackenzie Smith sent a ball over the center field fence for a two-run homer, making it a 5-1 lead for Flagler.
The Bobcats added three more runs on four hits in the bottom of the fourth to close the gap 5-4, then tied it up in the bottom of the fifth.
Back-to-back singles from Rylee Konowalchuk and Jordan Moss started things off in the top of the sixth for Flagler. A sacrifice bunt from Paige Maseda made it one out with runners on second and third for Stewart's at bat. A single by Stewart scored Moss and Kiersten James, who pinch ran for Konowalchuk, and an error by the Bobcats advanced Stewart to third. The Saints held their lead and ended the game in a 7-5 victory.
Madelyn Wise (4-2) earned the win for the Saints after throwing three innings. The senior faced 16 batters, allowed three hits and struck out three batters. Stewart went 4-for-4 on the day with two doubles, one run scored and four runs batted in.
The Saints will head to Savannah, Ga. to face Savannah State on Tuesday (Feb. 27) in a doubleheader.
