BLUFFTON, S.C. –
Malik Bryant scored a team-high 24 points, five of those coming in the final five minutes, and added six assists to help Flagler College fend off the University of South Carolina Beaufort 72-69 in a Peach Belt Conference men's basketball game Saturday afternoon at the Sand Shark Recreation Center.
Flagler won its third game in a row and improved to 16-10 overall and 9-7 in the Peach Belt. USC Beaufort suffered its seventh consecutive loss and fell to 10-14 overall and 3-13 in league play. The Saints host Lander University on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. at Flagler Gymnasium.
The Saints led by as many as 10 (64-54) with 6:38 left in regulation. The Sand Sharks kept chipping away and made it a one-possession game (69-66) after a Marcus Overstreet layup with 1:15 left. Overstreet had a monster game with 27 points and 18 rebounds.
After a
Mason Manning trey pushed the Flagler advantage back to six (72-66), Larry Bullock sank a 3-pointer for USCB with 31 seconds to go. A Saints turnover gave the ball back to the Sand Sharks with 25 second on the clock. Bullock missed his shot at the buzzer.
Omar Figueroa added 13 points and five rebounds for the Saints.
Jalen Barr finished with 13 rebounds, nine points, and five assists.
Bullock finished with 11 points and five rebounds while Kenney Gains came off the bench to provide 10 points.
