ST. AUGUSTINE –
Jesse Sullivan's two-run home run in the second inning and
Daniel Fischer's (2-2) strong pitching performance helped Flagler College to a 5-1 win over American International College in a non-conference baseball game Friday night at Drysdale Field.
Flagler won its fourth game in a row and improved to 4-8. AIC, from Springfield, Massachusetts, lost its fourth game in a row and fell to 1-4. The same two teams meet at 2 p.m. at Drysdale Field.
After the Yellow Jackets scored an unearned run in the first, the Saints began their rally in the home-half of the second.
Kevin RisCassi led off the second by drawing a walk. Then Sullivan belted a 1-1 pitch over the left field wall to give Flagler a 2-1 lead. Later in the inning,
Mason Gray's single drove in
Donovan Garcia with the insurance run.
That's all the offense Fischer needed. After getting out of the first, he settled down and only allowed one base runner to reach scoring position. He tossed seven complete innings, allowed an unearned run on six hits with seven strikeouts.
Brad Vondruska closed out the game. He fanned two batters.
Sullivan went 2-for-3 with the home run as well as a double and he finished with four runs driven in.
Luke Welborn collected two singles and scored a run.
Nick Balcom (0-1) allowed five runs on five hits to pick up the loss for the Yellow Jackets. He walked five and struck out six.
Jackson Harker had two singles.
The Saints drew seven walks in the game and three of those walks turned into three of the five Flagler runs.
