ALLENDALE, Mich. – The Flagler College men's track and field team split their weekend at two different meets. Athletes were competing at the Florida University Last Chance Meet in Gainesville, Florida and the GVSU Big Meet in Allendale, Michigan.
At the GVSU Big Meet, Flagler competed in the 800m, mile, 3000m on Friday and the distance medley relay (DMR) on Saturday.
Kaleb Hollins placed eighth in the 800-meter early section with a time of 1:54.24.
Luke Larkin also competed and finished with a time of 1:54.16 that put him in 23rd place. Larkin and Hollins are ranked fourth and fifth in the conference, respectively. In the mile,
Brandon Knieja placed 43rd with a time of 4:30.97 and
Joel Nesi ran in the 3000-meter with a time of 8:27.70 that earned him ninth place. Nesi is ranked second in the conference for his time. The four athletes ran the DMR with a time of 10:14.43 and finished 18th, ranking first in the conference.
In Gainesville, the Saints had entries in the 60m, 200m, 400m, 800m, mile, 3000m, 60m hurdles and 4x400m relay. As well as field entries in the long jump, triple jump and shot put.
Five athletes competed in the 60-meter run.
Ryan Sen (7.16) was the best finish in 23rd,
Christian McFarlane (7.29) followed in 32nd, Sam Hummer (7.30) in 34th,
Darrell Miller III (7.40) in 37th and Amonyay Prichard (7.48) in 40th.
A group of eight freshman ran in the 200-meter, two finished within the top 25. Hummer finished in 22nd with a time of 23.02 and
Malachi South followed in 23rd with a time of 23.12. Three Saints finished in the top fifteen in the 400-meter:
Houston Harper (51.27) in 12th,
Logan Camara (51.36) in 14th and
Xander Cunningham (51.78) in 15th.
John Carbone earned a fourth place finish in the 800-meter with a personal-best time of 1:52.88. His time ranks third in the conference.
Zach Brainerd (1:58.93), Harper (2:01.44) and
Joshua Sea (2:03.25) followed him in 11th, 18th and 23rd, respectively.
The 3000-meter saw four Saints finish in the top fifteen:
Jon Eide in 9th,
Ethan Tank in 11th,
Francisco Ramirez in 13th and
Christian Fernandez in 15th.
Freshmen duo
Caden Vann and
Sam Adebonojo finished seventh and eighth in the 60-meter hurdles. The Flagler 4x400 relay teams finished fifth and sixth.
In the field events,
Kruz Jimenez,
Malik Edwards and Prichard competed in the long jump. Jimenez placed 10th with a 6.29m jump, he also placed ninth in the triple jump with a 13.21m mark. Edwards placed 16th in the long jump at 5.71m and 11th in the triple jump with a 11.73m jump.
Casey Wood earned a first place finish in the shot put with a 15.75m throw, beating out his previous best and ranking first in the conference.
The Saints will return to the Alachua County Sports Complex at Celebration Pointe for the Peach Belt Conference Indoor Track & Field Championship on Feb. 19.
