Saints squeak past Hurricanes

ST. AUGUSTINE - Jaylen Jordan scored 19 points to lead Flagler College to an 89-82 win over Georgia Southwestern State University in a Peach Belt Conference men's basketball game this afternoon at Flagler Gym.
 
The Saints improve to 5-2 overall and 1-0 in the PBC. The Hurricanes drop to 5-5 for the season and 0-1 in the conference. The Saints next game will be at Rollins College on Dec. 17.
 
Jordan, a Georgia Southwestern transfer, grabbed eight rebounds and made 7-of-11 from the field. Jax Bouknight and Max Hrdlicka had 14 points each. Josiah Shackelford came off the bench to score double digits as well with 11 points. Bouknight tallied a game-high eight assists.

The Saints shot 52.7 percent from the field and sank 50 percent (11-22) of their shots from three-point range.
 
Lars Nilsen lead the Hurricanes with a game-high 29 points, seven rebounds, and one steal. Justin Monden added 19 points and six rebounds. Justine De La Cruz came off the bench to score 11 points.
 
The game saw 17 ties and 11 lead changes. Flagler erupted with a 17-4 run that started in the last five minutes of the game. Jordon made the first of two free throws with 5:02 left in the game to spark the run. Nearly a minute later, Trevur Smalls' transition layup tied the game at 74. Bouknight finished the run with a pair of free throws with 17 seconds left to give the Saints their largest lead (88-78).
