TAMPA, Fla. – Jaylen Jordan recorded his sixth double-double of the year with 13 points and a team-high 12 rebounds in Flagler College's 78-70 loss to the University of Tampa Saturday night to close out the Tampa Classic at the Bob Martinez Athletics Center.
Flagler dropped to 7-3 as it closed out its non-conference schedule. The Saints will take a break for the holidays and return to the court on Jan. 4 at the University of North Georgia. Tampa improved to 9-2.
Jax Bouknight led the Saints with 15 points and eight assists.
Destin Clark tacked on 14 points while
Josiah Shackelford finished with 13 points and seven rebounds.
The Saints committed 17 turnovers and the Spartans turned those into 18 points.
Trey Lane came off the bench to pour in a game-high 26 points for Tampa. Amarion Nimmers added 23 more. He made five 3-pointers. Ryan Blount contributed 11 points. Tyson Leitao just missed a double-double. He collected a game-high 19 rebounds and added nine points.
The Spartans had a 41-31 lead at the half and overcame a cold 28.9 percent (11-38) shooting performance in the second half.
Flagler made it a one possession game after a Jordon dunk cut the deficit to 68-66 with 1:22 left to play. Tampa closed the game on a 10-4 run, including scoring five-straight points after Jordon's dunk.
