Late 16-0 run leads Saints past Warriors

CENTRAL, S.C. – Flagler College broke open a nine-point lead early in the fourth quarter with a massive 16-0 run in a 76-56 victory over Southern Wesleyan University in a non-conference women's basketball game Tuesday evening at Historic Tysinger Gymnasium.

Flagler snapped a four-game losing streak and improved to 2-4. Southern Wesleyan dropped to 2-5. Up next for the Saints is a home date on Dec. 3 against the University of Fort Lauderdale at 5:30 p.m. at Flagler Gymnasium.

Se'Lah Reddick's transition layup with 7:27 left in the game sparked the run that lasted 4:26. Destiny McClendon made eight free throws and made a layup in that time span. The Saints made 12-of-13 from the charity stripe. The Warriors were whistled for eight fouls.

Marley Smith recorded the first double-double of the season for Flagler with a game-high 22 points and 10 rebounds. She sank 7-of-10 from the free throw line. Sharale McCormick added 18 points, seven rebounds, two assists, and two steals. McClendon made all 12 of her free throws and finished with 14 points. Jazmine Major added seven rebounds.

The Saints made 32-of-37 free throws for an 86.5 shooting percentage. The 32 made free throws ties a NCAA Division II era record that was last achieved on Feb. 22, 2014 against UNC Pembroke.

Kaliah Kendrick was the lone Warrior to score in double-figures with 12 points. Asia Pearley added nine points, six rebounds, and four assists.
