JACKSONVILLE, Fla. –
Marley Middlebrooks and
Gracie Fleming led a balanced offensive attack with six kills apiece to help lead Flagler College to a sweep (25-9, 25-16, 25-19) of Edward Waters University Monday evening at the Adams-Jenkins Community Sports & Music Complex.
Flagler won its fourth match in a row and evened its overall record to 9-9. Edward Waters dropped to 6-17. The Saints hit the road to face Lewis University on Thursday at 6 p.m. (Central) at Romeoville, Illinois.
The Saints utilized a good part of their roster with 16 players seeing time on the court.
Molly Boyd added four kills and five total blocks.
Clare Sheedy tallied 17 assists and seven blocks while
Lainee Mack added 13 assists.
Ella Wicker finished with three aces and five digs.
Lexi Basler led the Saints defense with nine digs.
Alexis Simpson led the Tigers with a match-high 12 kills. Damia Ellis tallied 13 assists while Dimaliz Figueroa collected 11 digs.
Flagler held Edward Waters to a -.121 hitting percentage in the first set. The Tigers had six kills and 10 errors on 33 swings. The Saints hit .320 with 10 kills and two errors on 25 swings. Flagler opened the set on a 6-0 run and never looked back. Boyd recorded all five of her total blocks in the set.
The Saints opened the second set on a 7-2 run and held off a short rally by the Tigers. Flagler sprinted ahead to an 18-10 lead thanks to a 5-0 spurt.
With the score tied at 18 in the third set, the Saints reeled off six-straight points to set-up match point. The Tigers broke the first point, but a setting error on the second match point ended the game.
