Saints led the mile at Florida Collegiate Invitational

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The Flagler College men's indoor track and field team competed at the Florida Collegiate Invitational at the Alachua County Sports Complex at Celebration Pointe on Friday and Saturday.

The Saints had entries in the 60m, 400m, 800m, mile, 3000m, 5000m and 4x400m relay. As well as field entries in long jump, triple jump and shot put.

The best finish for Flagler came in the mile. Five athletes competed in this event and all placed in the top 15. Will Stone led the pack with a personal-best time of 4:11.70 that earned him a second place finish. His time tops the conference and ranks sixth in the region. Joel Nesi finished next in fourth with a time of 4:16.29. His time puts him at third in the conference. A pair of freshmen followed in sixth and eighth. Kaleb Hollins finished with a time of 4:18.52 and John Carbone with a time of 4:19.85. Brandon Knieja followed in 12th with a time of 4:27.80.

Freshman Zach Brainerd (1:58.48) earned a second place finish in the 800-meter run. Logan Burch finished 13th in the 3000-meter run with a time of 9:18.08 and was followed by freshman Ben Youngs, in 25th place, with a time of 9:40.83.

Four athletes competed in the 400-meter run: Malik Edwards, Xander Cunningham, Reuel Belizaire and Conner Hall. Edwards finished in 26th with a time of 53.03 and Cunningham was right behind in 29th with a time of 53.15. Belizaire (53.90) and Hall (55.93) placed 32nd and 40th, respectively.

In the 5000-meter, the Saints had four athletes compete and finish within the top 20. Ethan Tank (15:30.04) and Dieumerci Ufitimana (15:30.36) finished in 12th and 13th. Behind them was Jon Eide (15:35.05) and Adrian Abercrombie (16:21.29) in 15th and 19th. The 4x400 relay team of Brainerd, Edwards, Belizaire and Burch finished 15th with a time of 3:36.92.

For the field events, Kruz Jimenez earned 11th in both the long jump (6.13m) and triple jump (11.95m). Following him in long jump at 21st and 25th, were freshmen Malik Edwards (5.50m) and Amonyay Pritchard (4.51m). The Saints head back to the Alachua County Sports Complex at Celebration Pointe for the Celebration Pointe Indoor Classic on Feb. 2-3.
