AMERICUS, Ga. –
Malik Bryant led a balanced scoring attack with 14 points in a 73-67 loss to Georgia Southwestern State University in a Peach Belt Conference men's basketball opener Wednesday night at The Storm Dome.
Georgia Southwestern improved to 9-2 while Flagler is now 7-4. The Saints host No. 7 (NABC Division II Top 25) University of North Georgia on Saturday at 3:30 p.m.
The game was close throughout as neither team had a double-digit lead, except a brief moment when the Hurricanes had a 21-11 lead.
After a
Mason Manning layup gave Flagler a 64-63 lead with 3:16 left to go, GSW scored nine unanswered points, over two-plus minutes, to take a 72-64 lead. A pair of Jalen Johnson free throws with 42 seconds left completed the spurt.
Jalen Barr added 12 points, four rebounds, and four steals for Flagler.
Kyle Young contributed 11 points and four boards. Manning led the team with a season-high eight rebounds.
JaKwon Moore and Jordan Johnson both came off the bench and scored 15 points apiece for the Hurricanes. Christian Koonce added 13 points while Tim Hall, Jr. supplied 10 points and six rebounds. Jalen Johnson and Bryce Turner each corralled eight rebounds.
