COLUMBUS, Ga. –
Jalen Barr scored 12 of his 16 points in the second half, including six in overtime, to help Flagler College defeat Columbus State University 88-85 in a Peach Belt Conference men's basketball game Wednesday night at the Frank G. Lumpkin, Jr. Center.
Flagler won its fourth game in a row and improved to 11-6 overall and 4-3 in the Peach Belt. Columbus State lost its second game in a row and it was its fourth loss in its last five games. The Cougars are now 9-7 overall and 3-4 in conference play. The Saints host USC Beaufort on Saturday at 3:30 p.m.
The game featured five ties and nine lead changes.
Destin Clark's old-fashioned three-point play gave the Saints a 73-70 lead with 2:06 left in regulation. Marquis Davison made a pair of free throws and then Wisdom Uboh sank a fall-away three-pointer with 29 seconds left to give the Cougars a 75-73 lead. But Barr drew a foul with seven seconds left and sank both free throws to tie the game and send it to overtime.
Flagler scored the first nine points of the extra session and held on at the end. The Saints made 62.5 percent of their shots in the extra five minutes.
Clark recorded his third double-double of the season with a team-high 22 points and a game-high 11 rebounds. He made 10-of-his-13 shots from the field. Barr added six rebounds, three steals, two blocks, and an assist to his final line.
Omar Figueroa finished with 13 points and
Malik Bryant supplied 12 more.
Jax Bouknight had 10 points, five rebounds, and five assists.
Jarrett Adderton led Columbus State with a game-high 23 points, seven rebounds, and three steals before fouling out with nine seconds left in regulation. Uboh added 22 points, six rebounds, and four assists while Davison finished with 18 points and eight rebounds.
The Cougars only made 25 percent of their shots from the field in overtime, but did make all six free throws.
