Figueroa pours in 31 points as Saints cruise past Sand Sharks

ST. AUGUSTINE – Omar Figueroa scored a career-best 31 points thanks to seven made 3-pointers as Flagler College coasted to a 97-68 win over USC Beaufort in a Peach Belt Conference men's basketball game Saturday afternoon at Flagler Gymnasium.

Flagler extended its winning streak to five games and improved to 12-6 overall and 5-3 in the Peach Belt. USC Beaufort, a first-year program, lost its third game in a row and fell to 9-7 overall and 2-6 in league play. Flagler heads to Greenwood, South Carolina on Wednesday to face conference co-leader Lander University.

Kyle Young's tip-in with 12:40 left in the first half knotted the game at 15 and sparked a 12-0 run by the Saints. Flagler blistered the hoops in the first half as it shot 59 percent from the field. Figueroa had 21 of his 31 points in the opening half.

The Saints extended their lead to as many as 40 (72-32) early in the second half.

Destin Clark added 22 points, six rebounds, four assists, and two steals for Flagler. Jalen Barr just missed a double-double with 17 points and nine rebounds. Jax Bouknight tallied six assists.

Marcus Overstreet led USCB with 22 points and he grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds.

The Sand Sharks were averaging a league-best 11.3 three-pointers made per game. Today, USC Beaufort struggled from the perimeter making only 5-of-33, which is only 15.2 percent. They finished the game shooting 32.1 percent from the field.

NOTE: The 29-point win for Flagler was its largest margin of victory against a PBC opponent since defeating Augusta University by 30 (82-52) on Feb. 13, 2021 at Augusta, Georgia.
