AIKEN, S.C. –
Jax Bouknight,
Destin Clark, and
Malik Bryant combined to score 67 points, but it was a late rally by USC Aiken that pushed the team to a 97-95 victory over Flagler College in a Peach Belt Conference men's basketball game Wednesday night at the Convocation Center.
USC Aiken improved to 11-2 overall and 2-1 in the Peach Belt. Flagler is now 7-6 overall and 0-3 in conference play. Up next for the Saints is Georgia College & State University on Saturday.
The Saints held a 14-point lead (56-42) with 16:43 left in the game, but the Pacers would chip away and tie the game at 73 after a Demitrios Dixon three-pointer with 7:31 to go.
USC Aiken then went on a 12-0 run over two and a half minutes to take the lead for good. Tehree Horn's transition layup with 4:12 left capped the run and gave the Pacers an 85-75 lead.
Flagler's
Spencer Bain hit a three-pointer with eight seconds left to make it a one possession game (96-94). But that was as close as the Saints could get.
Bouknight scored a career-high 24 points as he made 7-of-his-10 shots from the field, including 5-of-8 from three-point range. Clark added 22 points and eight rebounds while Bryant finished with 21 points and four assists.
Jalen McCoy led USC Aiken with 23 points. Tyler Johnson added 16 points while Rhyjon Blackwell and Horn tacked on 12 and 11 points, respectively. Simeon German grabbed seven rebounds and blocked six shots.
The Pacers cashed in 11 Saints turnovers for 26 points.
Both teams were hot from the field as Flagler made 54.8 percent of its shots and USC Aiken made 53.8 percent.
