ST. AUGUSTINE –
Paul Hansen scored a goal in the third minute, but Lander University netted a pair of second half goals to edge Flagler College 2-1 in a Peach Belt Conference men's soccer match Wednesday afternoon at Saints Field.
Flagler is now 1-4-1 overall and 1-2-0 in the Peach Belt while Lander moves to 2-3-2 overall and 1-0-0 in conference play.
Hansen put the Saints ahead early with his goal. Off a free kick into the box, a Lander defender tried to shuffle the ball away, but Hansen gathered the loose ball and blasted a shot into the back of the net.
Lander got the equalizer in the 65
th minute when Jami Escos Castillo knocked in the rebound of Carlos Madrid's original shot that hit the post.
Christian Hatley netted the game-winning goal when he put in a rebound in the 79
th minute.
Marcus Hedemann led Flagler with three shots, including one in the 32
nd minute that was saved by a Lander defender after the keeper was pulled away from the goal. Hatley led Lander with five shots.
Kevin Harr collected three saves for the Saints while Juan Rodriguez finished with two saves.
Lander outshot Flagler 17-11 and held a 4-2 edge in corner kicks.
Flagler steps out of conference to take on the University of Tampa on Saturday at Pepin Stadium in Tampa, Florida. Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m.
