AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Peach Belt Conference has announced its weekly honors on Monday afternoon, and the Flagler men's soccer team swept the weekly honors for the second time this season. Senior
Tim Wahlborg was named Player of the Week,
Filip Hornburg was named Defensive Player of the Week, and
Ryan Rivas garnered Goalkeeper of the Week honors.
Senior
Ryan Rivas returned to the Saints lineup over the weekend and earned his second PBC Goalkeeper of the Week award this year. The Fort Lauderdale, Florida native led the Saints to their sixth straight victory with a 5-0 shutout against Middle Georgia. Rivas made history by breaking the school record set back in 1995 with his 22
nd career shutout. Rivas recorded four saves in the record-breaking performance.
"I am delighted for Ryan to get this award," said Flagler head coach
Thomas Coombes. "He has proven himself consistently to be the best goalkeeper in the conference over the past four years, and to break the school record is a great achievement."
The Saints' defensive performance last week was also due to the contributions of sophomore defender
Filip Hornburg. The Oslo, Norway native was named PBC Defensive Player of the Week for the fourth time this season. Last week, Hornburg played all 90 minutes in both victories and only conceded two goals. In the weekend victory over the Knights, the sophomore dished out his first assist of the season while adding a shot.
"Filip had another great week for us. His assist this weekend shows why he is important to us both with and without the ball."
On the flip side of the ball, senior
Tim Wahlborg led the offensive charge. The Ostersund, Sweden native scored three goals and dished out two assists to earn eight points on the week. In the 4-2 victory over USCA, the senior scored his second brace of the season while distributing an assist. In the weekend cap, Wahlborg scored again and added an assist. The forward ranks sixth in the conference in scoring and fourth in total points.
"Tim has turned himself into one of the best forwards in the region. He has it all as a forward and his three goals this week were huge in helping us continue our current win streak."
The No. 19 Saints are 9-1-4 this season, and 9-0-1 in conference play. Flagler is riding a six-game winning streak, the longest since 2013 and outscoring opponents 18-3 during that span. Last week, Flagler clinched the PBC Regular Season title, the third since joining the league and the first since 2011.
Flagler will return to action on Wednesday, October 21
st as the Saints travel to Embry-Riddle. Kickoff is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. from ERAU Soccer Stadium and the game will be broadcast on the Sunshine State Conference Digital Network.
