DAHLONEGA, Ga. – Flagler College lost a pair of one-run games, 3-2 and 5-4, at the University of North Georgia in a Peach Belt Conference doubleheader Friday afternoon at Bob Stein Stadium.
North Georgia improved to 22-16 overall and 12-11 in the Peach Belt. Flagler is now 11-24 overall and 7-13 in conference play.
In the opener, the Nighthawks did all of their damage in the first inning. Nik Levensteins hit a two-run double down the right field line and scored on Connor Frost's single up the middle.
Trey Newland drove home a run for the Saints with a single in the third inning and
Matthew Burke scored on a wild pitch in the fourth.
Zach Green (4-0) earned the win in relief for North Georgia as he tossed 2.2 scoreless innings. He allowed two hits, walked a batter, and struck out two. Reid Howard picked up his first save of the year as he finished the last 1.1 innings. He stuck out two and allowed one hit.
Riley Frost, Connor Frost, and Edwin Bowman IV each hit two singles for the Nighthawks.
Gage Voorhees (1-3) scattered nine hits and allowed two earned runs in seven innings of work. He struck out five batters and induced nine fly outs and six more ground outs.
Simms Owens, Newland, Burke,
Jaiden Warde,
Taylor Clapp, and
Caden Kresak all had a base hit.
In the second game, the Saints jumped out to a quick lead thanks to a two-run single by
Donovan Garcia and he scored on Clapp's single to give Flagler a 3-0 lead in the top of the first.
But North Georgia sent 10 men to the plate in the seventh inning and scored five runs on six hits to take the lead. Justin Bailey hit a two-run single to ignite the rally. Later in the inning, Jace Bowen drove in two more runs with a single up the middle.
The Saints got one run back in the eighth after
Tim Kudlinski and Kresak hit back-to-back doubles.
Jaret Bales (1-0) picked up the win in relief after tossing 1.1 innings. He allowed one run on one hit with one strikeout. Jacob Lassiat retired all three batters he faced in the ninth to earn his first save.
Bowen collected two singles and drove in two runs. Bailey went 2-for-4 with a double and two runs batted in for North Georgia.
Gabriel Partridge (0-5) took the loss in relief. He surrendered one run on two hits in 1.2 innings. Partridge walked one and struck out one.
Dylan Faulkner allowed four runs on six hits in 6.1 innings of work.
Kudlinski went 3-for-4 with a double and he scored a run. Kresak finished with a single, a double and he had one RBI.
The same two teams will meet on Sunday at noon to finish the series.
