ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla.- The Flagler College softball team fell 7-1 to the No.13 Saint Leo Lions in a non-conference game on Wednesday afternoon at Flagler Field.
The Saints (12-24) got on board in the sixth inning.
Stephanie Youngblood made it to second base after a single to the shortstop and a stolen base.
Paige Maseda's bunt put runners at first and third. A ground out from
Abbey O'Connor allowed Youngblood to score.
Jordan Sheets (6-9) pitched five innings. The freshman was credited with the loss after giving up 11 hits and six runs. Sheets walked two batters and induced 12 ground outs.
Madelyn Wise pitched two innings, giving up two hits and one run.
The Lions (34-6) scored three runs in the second inning off Hope Epps, Nicole Magdziasz and Alexandra Hare. In the fourth inning, Caroline Barwick took advantage of a single to make it 4-0. Two runs in the sixth by Bianca Polistina and Epps made it 6-0. The Lions scored their last run after a single from Hare pushed Shyanne Waller home.
Kayla Betts (18-1) took the win and pitched a complete game, giving up three hits and one run. Â Betts had 12 strikeouts during play.
Next, the Saints will host Lander in a three-game conference series on Friday and Saturday, April 7-8.
