Saints dropped two against Bucs

ST. AUGUSTINE – Barry University swept a non-conference softball doubleheader from Flagler College, 5-2 and 8-4, Tuesday afternoon at Flagler Field.

Flagler drops to 10-29 overall while Barry evens its record at 23-23. The Saints will travel to Dahlonega to face No. 8 (NFCA Division II Top 25) University of North Georgia in a Peach Belt Conference series this weekend. The two teams will play a doubleheader on Friday at 3 p.m.

In the first game, the Bucs got on the board in the first inning on a Sarah Langlie's RBI-single to deep right center. They added four more runs in the second.

The Saints got on the board in the second with a single by Stephanie Daly who advanced to second. Raquelle Justice scored Daly with a single on the right field line. They added one more run in the fourth with a fielder's choice by Justice who later scored on a single from Olivia Burns.

Samantha Rosenberger (3-6) got the win for Barry. She allowed two runs on six-hits in four innings. She had two strikeouts and six ground outs. Isabel Vera finished the game and grabbed a save.

Serah Shafer went 2-for-3 with a double and one run scored. Mya Tucker collected a single, scored a run and drove in two more.

Jordan Sheets (2-9) surrendered seven hits with five runs in 1.2 innings. Ava Matthews retired all 16 batters faced in 5.1 innings with four strikeouts.

Burns had two singles and knocked in one run. Justice went 1-for-3 with a run scored and one more batted in. Daly had a single and scored a run.
 
In game two, the Bucs got on the board in the first inning thanks to a three-run homer by Harper Bunn. Barry added one run in the second and two in the sixth.
 
In the second, Daly singled to right along with Justice. Annake Meadows hit a single through the left side to load the bases. Burns singled to score Daly. Hannah Smith hit a two-run single to left.

Vivian Billiard started the game for the Bucs and went to 1.2 innings. Alexis Martin (11-9) tossed a two-hitter in 4.1 innings pitched and had one flyout and four ground outs.

Mya Tucker went 2-for-3 with two singles, three runs scored and a run batted in. Shafer finished 2-for-3 with two runs driven in and one scored. Langlie hit a solo home run.

Alyssa Hunter (0-1) took the loss in the circle for the Saints. She allowed eight runs on six hits in 5.1 innings pitched. Matthews tossed the final 1.2 innings.

Smith collected two singles and drove in two runs for Flagler. Daly finished with a pair of singles.
