ST. AUGUSTINE – Flagler College erupted to score 29 runs on 27 hits in a 29-4 rout of Claflin University in a Peach Belt Conference baseball game Sunday afternoon on "Senior Day" at Drysdale Field.
Flagler extended its win streak to six games and improved to 17-27 overall and 12-15 in the Peach Belt. Claflin dropped to 1-38 overall and 0-27 in conference play.
Several records were broken including runs scored, hits, and runs batted in.
After the Panthers scored two runs in the top of the first inning, the Saints sent 11 men to the plate and scored six runs on six hits.
Bryce Fitzgerald hit a bases clearing triple to give Flagler a 5-2 lead.
Leading 7-4 through three and one-half innings, the Saints scored 10 runs in the bottom of the fourth, added four more in the fifth, and then plated eight runs in the sixth.
Zach Thomas went 4-for-5 with a double, three runs batted in, and he scored four runs.
Jonny Crowel hit four singles, scored three runs, and he knocked in three more.
Taylor Clapp finished 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles, four RBI, and he scored three runs.
Coy Phillips, one of five seniors honored before the game, collected three singles, scored four runs, and he drove in three runs.
Every Flagler field player that played in the game had at least one hit, one RBI, and scored a run.
Danie Fischer (1-2) picked up the win in relief. He allowed one run on three hits in 2.2 innings pitched.
Seth Wysocki started while
Brad Vondruska,
Steven Reiss, and
Gabriel Partridge also worked in relief.
Roman Woods-Golston (1-2) surrendered 13 runs on 10 hits in 3.1 innings for Claflin.
Kobie Miller hit two singles and scored two runs.
Flagler plays its final home game on Tuesday against Edward Waters University at 6 p.m. at Drysdale Field.
