ST. AUGUSTINE –
Dylan Faulkner (5-3) tied his career-high with 11 strikeouts and
Simms Owens collected three hits, scored three runs and had one run batted in to help Flagler College defeat Claflin University 10-0 in seven innings in a Peach Belt Conference baseball game Saturday afternoon on "Red Cox Day" at Drysdale Field.
The Saints extended their winning streak to five games and improved to 16-27 overall and 11-15 in the Peach Belt. Claflin dropped to 1-37 overall and 0-26 in league play.
Faulkner tossed five scoreless innings and scattered three hits and he walked a batter.
Huston Wynne finished the game and allowed one hit, one walk, and struck out two.
Owens got the first of his three hits with a bunt single in the bottom of the first inning. He came around to score on an RBI single by
Matthew Burke.
Taylor Clapp and
Tim Kudlinski followed with run-scoring singles to stake the Saints to a 3-0 lead.
Flagler added two runs in each of the next two innings and then
Jaiden Warde's RBI single in the bottom of the seventh capped a three-run inning and the run-rule was enforced.
Owens went 3-for-5 with a double to pace the 13-hit attack.
Coy Phillips, Burke, and Clapp each collected two singles, scored a run, and drove in another.
Ashton Thomas hit a double and finished with two RBI.
Charles Jackson (0-9) allowed five earned runs on 10 hits for the Panthers in the loss.
Kobie Miller, Da'Avion Sumter, Eric Sledge, and Deshawnte Carraway each hit a single.
The same two teams meet tomorrow at noon on "Senior Day" at Drysdale Field.
